How to read Nigeria’s current figure

The official country figure describes an application submitted from Nigeria. IRCC says the clock begins with a complete application, includes time to provide biometrics, and ends at the decision. It can still take longer when documents are incomplete, facts require more verification, volumes rise or the case is complex.

Because IRCC publishes a distinct country value only when enough recent information exists, the presence of a Nigeria figure supports comparison. A blank country elsewhere would not mean applications are ignored; IRCC says it may be unable to show a time when too few recent cases exist.

The table compares current processing-time statistics only. It does not compare eligibility, application quality or approval rates.

Three checks before relying on the estimate

  • Correct route: confirm that “study permit outside Canada” is the application type that matches the official tool selection.
  • Correct application country: use where the application is submitted, which may differ from citizenship.
  • Current date: verify the value’s official data date. A cached screenshot without a date can outlive the figure it shows.

What GovWait adds

IRCC replaces the current number. GovWait keeps the prior official observations. The Nigeria history page will show whether the published route later becomes shorter, longer or stays at the same value across verified checks. The first observation is a baseline, not a trend.

Practical boundary: use the official estimate to plan a buffer, not to diagnose a submitted case. GovWait has no access to IRCC files and cannot expedite an application.

Common questions

Does 10 weeks mean every decision arrives by then?

No. IRCC explicitly says processing times are not a maximum or guarantee.

Can calling IRCC make the file move faster?

IRCC’s published guidance says calling does not speed processing. Use the official account and contact routes for case-specific information.
