New Zealand Accredited Employer Work Visa processing time
Immigration New Zealand currently reports 50% of Accredited Employer Work Visa applications processed within 16 working days and 80% within 37 working days. The visa is only one part of an employer-led sequence.
The AEWV timeline has three distinct gateways
- Employer accreditation: the employer must hold the required INZ accreditation.
- Job Check: the employer completes the official job-check step and obtains the job token used for the worker’s application.
- Worker’s AEWV application: the applicant submits the visa application using the employer-provided link and required documents.
The 16 working days/37 working days pair on this page is the visa-service figure in GovWait’s tracked tool. It should not be presented as the total time for all three gateways unless the official source explicitly combines them.
What the two numbers reveal
INZ calls the 50% point the average wait time and the 80% point “most completed within.” Both are based on working days. Half of represented applications completed by the first point; four out of five completed by the second. The remaining applications took longer.
The 21-working-day gap is useful because a single “typical” number hides the slower half of the distribution. It still does not predict a particular file.
Employer and role detail can change the wider plan
INZ also publishes employer-accreditation and Job Check figures, along with AEWV breakdowns by skill level and sector. Those tables can be more useful than the all-roles number when the official category matches the role. GovWait does not infer a skill level or sector from a job title.
What can make processing longer
INZ says incomplete applications take longer and may be declined. It must assess immigration requirements and the role requirements, and additional information or verification can extend the wait. The linked official account remains the case-specific source.
Track the two measures independently
The AEWV route page stores separate history for the 50% and 80% values. The New Zealand report compares the current gap with other reviewed visa types.
